Mathew Boggs is a prime example of how turning your “mess” into your “message” can produce extraordinary results in one’s life. Jaded by his parents’ divorce and the countless marriages unraveling around him, Mat was a young man who’d lost all belief in lifelong relationships. Roped into chauffeuring his grandma and dying grandfather on weekly adventures, he realized that sixty-three years later, they were still madly in Love. “Now that’s the marriage I want!” he said to himself. Passionate about deepening his own practice of Love, Mat enlisted his best friend into joining him on a cross-country search for America’s greatest marriages, which they called “Project Everlasting“. The two bachelors jumped in an RV and embarked on a 12,000-mile life-changing adventure to discover what it takes to find and make Love last. Mat has since co-authored the best-selling book, Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America’s Greatest Marriages. He’s also produced a critically acclaimed documentary film, hosts his own international radio show, and has two Hollywood television shows in development.

Timothy Miller grew up in Hooper, Utah. He served a mission in the England London East Mission. He graduated from BYU with a degree in Business Management. He married way over his head by marrying Karen Campbell who grew up here in the Huntington Beach Stake. They have 4 children and will become grandparents for the first time in May. He served as a Bishop in the Fountain Valley 1st ward for 6 ½ years and later served as the Bishop of the Pierside YSA Ward for 3 ½ years.

Scott Porter and Veronica Schindler are co-executive directors of the non-profit organization, Singular Humanitarian experience (SHe). SHe was created to give singles “something more” in our travel experiences. SHe provides unforgettable and meaningful opportunities for singles to serve together around the world in sustainable humanitarian development projects in health, education and economic development initiatives while experiencing shared and enriching adventures with new cultures and people. www.singularhumanitarian.org. Since 2009, over 220 SHe volunteers (primarily, but not exclusively, LDS singles in their 20s and 30s from the U.S. and around the world) have served in remote areas of Guatemala, Bolivia and Nepal. In addition to her involvement in SHe, Veronica lives in Palo Alto, California, works for Stanford University as the director of development communications for the athletic department and serves on the Stanford Institute Committee. Scott works in senior health care at Aspen Home Health & Rehab in LA/Orange Counties, develops the party game Reverse Charades, and serves in the Sunday School at the HB 1st ward.

What does my registration fee cover?
Your registration fee covers the cost of all activities and meals as outlined in the conference schedule. Activities with additional cost and rentals for beach activities are noted on the schedule. *Registration is now $65 and includes only Saturday and Sunday. Friday night Activities are sold out.

Can I register at the door?
We strongly request that you register before the cut-off date. Registration will only be permitted at the door in special circumstances. Online Registration closes on May 17, 2010 to ensure we have sufficient amounts of food and adhere to fire codes. If you register at the door, food will not be guaranteed.
If you have a sense of humor read on… Who on this green earth wants to marry a procrastinator!!!? Not anyone you’ll meet at this year’s awesome conference!!! So Register Now!.

What is the conference age range?
Conference attendees are “mid-singles” who generally are between the ages of 27 – 42. You may be a little younger or older, so long as you feel like a mid-single at heart.

Who comes to the conference?
Not to pat ourselves on the back or anything, but this is the biggest and best conference in the world (self proclaimed and not documented for reference). We’ve averaged over 900 attendees for the past 4 conferences and this year we aim to break all attendance records. Attendees have been known to attend from all over the world. This year we hope to have the largest and most geographically diverse group ever.

Where will the activities be held?
The Friday night activities will be held at Angels’ stadium in Anaheim. All Saturday and Sunday activities, as they appear in the schedule will be linked to maps to help you navigate your way to the final destination. Many of the activities will be held at the Huntington Beach Stake Center which is located at 8702 Atlanta Avenue in Huntington Beach. [ Map ]

Where do I park?

Who puts on the conference?
The Huntington Beach Mid-Singles Conference is organized and staffed almost exclusively by members of the Huntington Beach First Ward with help from members of the stake. SOOO, you’ll rack up major eternal points if you stay after an activity and help us clean and prep the building. Remember, you are being watched by those who want to date you. Those who want to date and marry hard working service minded awesome people. Wink-Wink.

Are you on Facebook?
Find us on Facebook! Yep! Friend us — HB Mid-Singles Conference.

Who should I contact if I have more questions?
If you have questions please email us at hbmidsinglesconference@gmail.com and yes, we respond so include a real email address. Just like dating, we can’t ask you out if you provide a fake number.

Logistics questions

What airport should I fly in to?
In order of ‘nearness’ to the conference, the following airports are good choices:
SNA – John Wayne airport in Santa Ana (10 miles)
LGB – Long Beach airport (15 miles) (direct flights on Delta and Jet Blue)
LAX – Los Angeles airport (40 miles… but feels like 80 in traffic)

Where should I stay?
There are many hotels at various price ranges in and around Huntington Beach. Some of the more modestly priced options are:
Days Inn, Huntington Beach or Fountain Valley – www.daysinn.com
Comfort Suites, Costa Mesa or Huntington Beach – www.choicehotels.com
Howard Johnson, Huntington Beach – www.hojo.com
Hotel Huntington Beach, www.hotelhb.com

Can I get free housing with local mid-singles?
If you have a friend who’s willing to let you sleep on the couch, then yes. There is no program to host attendees. However you can sometimes find groups on LDSLinkup.com or Facebook who are looking for other out-of-towners to share a hotel room or vacation homes for the weekend.

What is the weather in Huntington Beach like?
Well, it’s best to check the forecast a few days before you come. But generally in May, the days are sunny and in the high 70s. Nights can be chilly, so bring something warm. Also, the beach can be breezy, so plan appropriately.

What should I wear?
For Friday and Saturday activities, please dress in church-standard, casual attire. What does that mean exactly? Among other things, yes to sleeves, yes to jeans, no to bikinis or miniskirts. Wear modest swimwear and beach attire for beach activities. In all things, remember, Modest is Hottest! Sacrament meeting, fireside and temple sessions require Sunday attire.

Help us unlock the power of education for impoverished kids in Guatemala and Kenya! Together, we’ll enable over 1,000 kids in Guatemala and Kenya to improve their learning experience on their road to break out of the cycle of poverty!
A $10.00 donation will provide essential learning materials for two kids. Please feel free to increase your donation if you feel so inclined (or inspired as we like to say). Your donation when you register for the conference will provide rural students and teachers with much needed textbooks, reference materials and other essential school and classroom supplies. The supplies will be delivered in person to the kids by LDS single volunteers on expeditions organized by the non-profit organization, Singular Humanitarian experience (SHe).

Imagine if everyone donated $10.00, we can improve the lives of 2,000 kids. Donate $20, and we can double our impact. Please give generously this year as we strive to Be Here Now and make a lasting impact.
A little more about SHe
SHe provides meaningful opportunities for singles to serve together around the world in sustainable humanitarian development projects in health, education and economic development initiatives. Over 220 SHe volunteers (primarily, but not exclusively, LDS singles in their 20s and 30s from the United States and around the world) have served in remote areas of Guatemala, Bolivia and Nepal. SHe will soon open registration for expeditions to Guatemala (July 16-24) and Kenya (September 3-11).
