Mathew Boggs is a prime example of how turning your “mess” into your “message” can produce extraordinary results in one’s life. Jaded by his parents’ divorce and the countless marriages unraveling around him, Mat was a young man who’d lost all belief in lifelong relationships. Roped into chauffeuring his grandma and dying grandfather on weekly adventures, he realized that sixty-three years later, they were still madly in Love. “Now that’s the marriage I want!” he said to himself. Passionate about deepening his own practice of Love, Mat enlisted his best friend into joining him on a cross-country search for America’s greatest marriages, which they called “Project Everlasting“. The two bachelors jumped in an RV and embarked on a 12,000-mile life-changing adventure to discover what it takes to find and make Love last. Mat has since co-authored the best-selling book, Project Everlasting: Two Bachelors Discover the Secrets of America’s Greatest Marriages. He’s also produced a critically acclaimed documentary film, hosts his own international radio show, and has two Hollywood television shows in development.

Mary Nelson is married and has 6 children.  She has taught seminary for 18 years and recently served a CES mission to Boston, Massachusetts with her husband.  She is currently serving a CES mission at the Huntington Beach Institute and the Seacliff YSA ward.

Alan Sonne is a physician who has practiced emergency medicine and family medicine for 35 years in Southern California.  He is married to Jan, a clinical psychologist, and they have two grown children.

Timothy Miller grew up in Hooper, Utah.  He served a mission in the England London East Mission.  He graduated from BYU with a degree in Business Management.   He married way over his head by marrying Karen Campbell who grew up here in the Huntington Beach Stake.  They have 4 children and will become grandparents for the first time in May.  He served as a Bishop in the Fountain Valley 1st ward for 6 ½ years and later served as the Bishop of the Pierside YSA Ward for 3 ½ years.

1:15pm Box Lunch to go.

Grab your box lunch and head to the beach where we’ll be spending the rest of the afternoon.

2:00pm – 5:00pm Beach Activities [ Map ]

COMPLIMENTARY ACTIVITIES:  Volleyball, Frisbee, tug of war, limbo contest, sand castle building, flag football, 1-minute relay-races, music and mixers.  Please spread out on the beach at the various appointed life-guard stations and try different activities to meet new people.  This is the point, right?

SURFING: If you want to learn to surf, send an e-mail to saltwatersamc@gmail.com.  There will be a fee for board and wetsuit rental.  Sam needs to know in advance how many surfers to expect so that he can have enough boards, wetsuits, and instructors. You must know how to swim to sign up for surf lessons. The surf instruction location will be announced at registration but is typically north of the Huntington Beach Pier.

VOLLEYBALL: If you want to play volleyball, you’re in luck.  This year we’ll have 5 courts available and will be arranging teams at the site based on desired level of play and balance of men/women.  For those who are “serious about their VB”, we’ll have a “pro” court with referee (we’re gonna call those net touches! :) , and for those who desire a slightly more “relaxed” game, we’ll have the other courts.  Any questions, email landonswright@gmail.com

BIKE RIDE: If you want to go for a bike ride along the Huntington Beach boardwalk, please contact Jamie at bike.midsingles.hb@gmail.com.

Tour de HB:  A collection of 15 cruisers will be available for guided 1 hour bike rides along the beach strand (4 miles total).  The bikes will be available at the bike rack near Zack’s store on Beach Blvd/PCH beach entrance.  Tour times will be announced by Jamie 15 minutes prior to departure.  note: The complimentary bikes will be donated from HB 1st ward members and bike riders will be responsible for the proper use of their bike (don’t ride in traffic or the sand, bring the bike back, no helmets provided).  There will be a required non-monetary deposit (drivers license) to ensure the return of each bike.

Additional cost: Surfboard, boogie board, and in-line skate rentals are available for rent at various beach concessions.

5:00pm – 8:00pm Dinner at Ruby’s Diner on the Pier [ Map ]

Ruby’s Diner is the premier 1940′s family restaurant located at the end of the Huntington Beach Pier. Their menu includes award winning burgers, salads, fountain treats and is the location of this year’s HB Midsingle’s Conference Saturday night dinner. We’ll be eating in waves of up to 300 due to seating restrictions. A special menu will give you ample choices and faster service. Come hungry and prepared to get your flirt on (no restrictions to flirting on an empty stomach). You will be assigned a dinner time upon check-in.

Saturday evening at the Stake Center

8:00pm – 10:00pm Open Mic Night and Speed Dating

Speed Dating:

Guys – please participate!  It doesn’t work without you.

Gals – we’re never going to have enough guys or time to accommodate all the women who want to participate.  Sorry.

Tickets will be given out on a first come, first serve basis, so arrive on time!   We’re giving you a little more space this year so hopefully you can have more intimate conversation and find your eternal companion.  It’s up to you to exchange contact information with someone you’re interested in talking to more.  Take the initiative and live in the moment!

10:00pm – 12pm Concert, more speed dating, lounge and chill rooms, and mixers

We are super stoked about our live band this year!  We have booked “Wigs and Ties” who will be signing several popular cover songs that were billboard hits throughout the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.  You can dance, sing along with the music, participate in speed dating, or find a little more quiet time in one of our designated chill rooms.
